For some people, vacation means traveling out of state or thousands of miles to find a peaceful retreat. But there’s no reason to go that far if you live in North Carolina, because a beautiful oasis exists close to home.

  Fall Creek Cabins features two story cedar log cabins nestled among the mountain woods of a private 54-acre refuge near Boone.

  Each of the seven cabins (the seventh to be available soon) at Fall Creek Cabins has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full-size hot tub on the covered porch and a magnificent stone fireplace with ample firewood provided. Add amenities that you wouldn’t expect to find in a country setting, like dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer, TV/VCR and gas grill, and you’ll understand what makes Fall Creek Cabins different.

  It’s not just the cabins, however, that makes this secluded retreat unique. It’s the emphasis on personal service by the owners that sets it apart.

  "We want everyone who comes to Fall Creek Cabins to leave feeling that they’ve had the best vacation ever, that they can’t wait to come back," said Beverly Thompson, who owns the cabins with her husband, Tim. "We provide a lot of information up front to vacationers, so that they feel they know us before they’ve even arrived. That way, they can plan a trip suited just to them. It doesn’t matter if they love antiquing or river rafting or family gem mining, we’re located in an area that has it all, and we can tell them all about it."

  Fall Creek Cabins is five miles east of the Blue Ridge Parkway just a mile off U.S. 421. It is near Boone, Blowing Rock, Jefferson and Wilkesboro, but surrounded by thousands of acres of natural beauty and wilderness. Nearby attractions include Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Linville Falls and Caverns, and Stone Mountain.

  There’s plenty to do right on the property. Kick back in a rocking chair while enjoying the mountain views from the covered porch, explore the hiking trails, have a picnic by the creek or at the table right outside your cabin, or fish the state-stocked trout stream.

  Even the names of the cabins, like Serenity Ridge, Mountain Laurel and Creekside Overlook, give the place a special feeling. "Each cabin has oak and pine furnishings and hardwood floors, but we’ve decorated in an array of soothing colors," Mrs. Thompson said. "Whether you’re a honeymoon couple, a family vacationing or celebrating a reunion, or just need a break from everyday life, you’ll enjoy our cabins and our surroundings."
