Fall Creek Cabins: A dream come true

The dream of making the mountains of North Carolina their home is finally coming true after years of hard work for a young Miami, Fla., couple.

Beverly and Tim Thompson are the proprietors of Fall Creek Cabins in the Blue Ridge Mountains - a private four-cabin retreat located between the towns of Wilkesboro and Boone, just five miles from the entrance to the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway.

Every penny they've earned over the past 10 years has been used to buy the 54 acres of forest land and build the four two-story cabins. (The fourth cabin was completed this spring.) They've operated Fall Creek long-distance from Miami since the first three cabins were completed in 1992.

And while they may be two years behind schedule on actually making the move themselves, one thing was ahead of schedule: the birth of their now one-year-old son, Zachary. As of July, the Thompson family, including Mrs. Thompson's parents, are calling Fleetwood home. Their new home is just a few miles away from Fall Creek Cabins.

"We look forward to managing our cabins from a much closer distance, because we'll be able to provide our guests with extra special services that only we, as the owners, can do," said Mrs. Thompson.

"We're anxious to actually meet the people who have become regular guests of our cabins over the past three years. It's because of them we've been able to make our dream come true."

The Thompson family actually will get to enjoy the beauty of fall in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Trips in the past have been limited to one or two visits a year, usually in the spring or winter.

If you haven't had a chance to visit Fall Creek, autumn may well be the best time. "We're looking forward to the crisp, cool nights and the turning of the leaves," said Thompson. "And we finally get to really enjoy what our visitors love about the Blue Ridge Mountains, things like the golf courses, the fishing and being able to browse through the many antique and gift shops in the area."

Within close distance of Fall Creek Cabins is Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Mast General Store, Linville Caverns, whitewater rafting, skiing and other attractions.

Mrs. Thompson says the family is thrilled to finally live out their dream as North Carolina residents. "Personally, we are exhausted from our recent move from Miami, but we look forward to our new life in the country, with more time for God and family."

Fall Creek Cabins offer all of the luxuries of home in a tranquil setting. Each cabin is nestled among the trees, built far enough apart to afford privacy. Each has two bedrooms, two baths, living room and kitchen (three cabins sleep six people, one is for five).

There's a private heated spa on the covered porch of each cabin, offering scenic views. Amenities include a washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, TV and VCR. Linens, firewood and barbecue grills also are provided.

All cabins have oak and pine furnishings and hardwood floors. Each is decorated in a different decor. Serenity Ridge offers a peaceful rose and raspberry color scheme. Blueberry Hideaway has a tranquil country blue scheme and Mountain Laurel is in a restful country green.

The newest cabin, Creekside Overlook, has a porch with a view of Green Branch, a meandering creek which runs through the Fall Creek property. Its interior color scheme is raspberry.

Fall Creek Cabins are located approximately 37 miles from Interstate 77, one mile off U.S. 421 and just five miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. For more information, write to Fall Creek Cabins, P.O. Box 219, Fleetwood, N. C. 28626-0219 or call 1-910-877-3131.
